Groups and Networks

The topic that I chose to relate to out of class is about groups and networks. In class, we discussed how a network, which is all of the direct and indirect connections that link one person or group with other people or groups, can end up turning into a group, which is a collection of people who share an identity and who regularly act on the basis of shared norms. I have witnessed a great example of this through joining greek life. When I first joined, I did not know anyone even though I was linked to these people, which is why I considered it a network. But, after a few weeks of getting to know the people in my sorority, these people had a completely different meaning to me. I found a group within a network and I think it is the perfect example of that transition.
