Women in the Workplace

Over the summer, I work at a local sportsplex with predominately men. It is not rare that I am the only female scheduled with all men. Like Kanter says, women are a token. I work with people ranging from 16 to their mid twenties usually.  These men will often make inappropriate comments about women. Either women they know personally, women they see around the park, and even sometimes about myself. I get very uncomfortable, however I do not speak up, I usually just walk away from the situation, since they act like I’m not there anyways. Sometimes they will try and use code words so that I will not pick up their message, however that sometimes makes it even more obvious. The men also often ask me to do the talking to customers. Maybe because they think I have picked up a “nurturing” characteristic, just because I am a women.
