Friendly City to Celebrate First Year Anniversary
Downtown grocery hosts 1st Birthday Party.

HARRISONBURG, VA — Friendly City Food Co-op, Harrisonburg’s consumer-owned grocery, invites the community to come celebrate the successes of its first year on Saturday, June 9 from 12pm-4pm at 150 East Wolfe Street.

Shenandoah Valley Americana band Bryan Elijah Smith, folk musician Dave Nealon, as well as additional groups will perform.

Free demos and food tastings include:
● Equal Exchange– Free Fair Trade iced tea and coffee
● Olli Salumeria– Free Virginia produced salames
● Route 11 Chips– Free locally-made chips
● Muddy Bike Urban Farm– Free composting demo and education
● Radical Roots Community Farm– Free locally grown certified organic greens
● Local massage therapists–Free massages

Kid friendly activities will include tie dying, a painting station, cornhole toss, and “on the farm” photos.

Additionally local baker BitterSweet will provide free carrot cupcakes to help celebrate the occasion.

Friendly City is a full-service grocery store where everyone can shop and anyone can join. Friendly City focuses on providing locally produced goods when available and natural, sustainable products throughout the year. Its member owners have democratic voting abilities while holding a share of the co-op that will allow them patronage refunds in the future.
