Job Overview The Center for Hospitality and Sport Management Program at Drexel University invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Food Science with a specialization in food safety, sensory science and/or food product development. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Qualifications The successful applicant will have earned doctorate in Food Science or a related field. Experience in the food industry and university or college teaching is a plus. A publication record, history of funded research, and clear research agenda is highly desirable. The ability to work collaboratively with on-campus colleagues and off-campus constituencies, to thrive in an urban and multicultural setting, and to utilize technology-enhanced learning tools is essential. An entrepreneurial spirit and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are critical to success.
Essential Functions Primary teaching responsibilities will include various aspects of food science and may include but are not limited to introductory foods, food product development, taste and odor, functional foods, food safety, and molecular gastronomy. Teaching opportunities also exist in Culinary Arts courses. Research and scholarship activities are expected and should be related to some aspect of food product development or sensory science. Release time from teaching for scholarship and service activities will be negotiated annually and will vary depending on the candidate’s success in research and funding initiatives as well as any developing needs of the center. Collaboration with local commercial and governmental bodies dealing with food product manufacture and control is strongly encouraged. Service activities include program and college committees and participation in student recruitment events.
