WordPress is the content management system where you articles and profiles will be housed and published. Learning to use a site like this can be overwhelming at first. Luckily, WordPress is very user-friendly, and you don’t have to learn many features to be up and running in no time. We’ll be adding some custom-made videos to this page to show you some more advanced features as you begin to fine-tune the design of your magazine. In the meantime, look at these short, easy-to-follow tutorials about the WordPress basics you need to get your article up on the site. (Note: to view these videos, you have to be on the JMU network, as they are professional tutorials that JMU has made available for us.)
To access these videos, go to the Atomic Learning WordPress tutorial site. If you press the “+” button on each of the sections, a number of different tutorials will open up. If you click on the individual tutorials, a video mini-player will open up with that particular lesson.
From the “Getting Started with WordPress” section, the only video you need to look at is Navigating the site administrator dashboard.
For your articles, you will be creating posts within WordPress. To become familiar with this workflow, consider viewing all the short tutorials in Section D, “Writing, Editing, and Managing Posts” and Section E, “Formatting and Enhancing your posts.
