Renovation update – Make way for ducts

by Jenny Nehrt, Student Assistant                                                                    Here’s another quick update from Special Collections! We have duct work! No, not the cute feathery kind roaming around Newman Lake but the kind that will deliver centralized AC and heating.

The men carrying out the renovations must have nerves of steel as they climb the scaffolding to mount the ductwork to the ceilings.

Once all the ceiling work is finished, the last step will be to repaint it. Without the dropped ceiling, the room looks more open. The duct work will add an interesting industrial feel to the room. The hanging wires will, of course, be removed and the top part of the wall added back in between the Reading Room and the Special Collections office.

It’s all happening over here! It seems like the construction workers are on a new project every time we pop our heads in. We’ll continue to keep you updated as the work progresses. Until the project is finished, come and see us in Carrier Library, Room 220. We’re here Monday – Thursday 9 am – 5 pm.
