We want to thank everyone that attended the McMillin Center’s “2016 High Performance Coaching Clinic”. This annual coaching clinic was jointly sponsored by Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation and the McMillin Center. The event had over 30 coaches from youth, high school, and college populations.
Our keynote speaker, coach Mickey Dean of the JMU softball team, and 2015 CAA Player of the year Jailyn Ford, discussed the methods their program uses to foster high performance. Additionally, Dr. Greg Young of JMU presented on how recent research findings about optimal coaching styles can improve your coaching ability. We were also lucky to have a multitude of JMU graduate students with knowledge in sport psychology present quick, 5 minute talks on specific skills coaches can use with their players.
Overall, we believe that the clinic was a large success. We thank everyone that was in attendance and provided us with feedback, and we hope to provide an even better product next year.
