Start a Food Pool

Food pools were started as a pilot project in Oakland, CA to take advantage of the increasing popularity of personal, community and other gardens and to provide food to people in need. Seems simple, pool the extra produce that you, your friends and neighbors grow. Take that surplus produce and donate it to local food banks and pantries.

What has started as a local project is now turning into a regional and national movement. How can we in the Valley contribute? I know that JMU already tries to donate as much of the leftover food from the dining halls to local organizations. Maybe we can try organize smaller neighborhood food pools?
