by Jenny Nehrt, Student Assistant The maintenance staff has been hard at work tearing out the floor and ceiling of Special Collections’ new reading room. By the time summer is over, this room will look beautiful!
As you can see, they’ve accomplished a great deal! The carpet was pulled up, lights taken down, and ceiling tiles ripped out. The ceiling will be redone so it looks aesthetically pleasing. New, low-hanging lights will be installed to make all the research that will soon be done in the room easier.
Don’t fear, though! Work is also being done to preserve the original features of the room. The library’s original crown molding will be repaired and painted a more up-to-date and pleasing color than its current green.
There will also be something for the techies. The new flooring will have floor plugs installed so researchers will have easier and continued access to their laptops while working.
Until the face-lift is done, Special Collections will be housed in Room 220 in Carrier Library. We’ll keep you updated as the renovations progress!
